The Mahaweli river, Sri Lanka's longest river surrounding this garden gives an added beauty to this garden. This garden is one of its best kind in the world and the best in Asia.

The Lords Spice and Herbal Garden in of Matale run by Mr. Atulla which has been in his family for over 12 generations is another spice garden of Sri Lanka Matale is situated in 24km north of Kandy There are loads of spice gardens on the road out of Matale, however this spice garden can be considered as one of the best.

A tour to this spice garden will give the visitors an interesting and informative explanation of the different herbs and spices, and their uses in cooking and Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) Medicine. In addition to the education one will get a delicious complimentary cup of cocoa, spice tea and wonderful Ayurvedic massages thrown in. This spice garden has a shop attached to the gardens where visitors could buy any of the many and varied herbal remedies and cooking spices with a handy little leaflet with instructions on their use. Each room has a special plant collection to emphasise particular themes and they are designed in such a way that visitors can walk into and through these rooms. One has to spend at least about 25 to 45 minutes in each garden trail and each room is a unique adventure.
